Operation Rheinübung

Exercise Rhine was the sortie into the Atlantic by the new German battleship Bismarck and heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen on 18–27 May 1941, during World War II. This operation culminated in the sinking of HMS Hood and Bismarck.

Wednesday morning 21 May 1941: Bismarck went into Grimstadfjord, south of Bergen, and anchored at the entrance to Fjorangerfjord.

The last morning 24 May 1941, 4 am: Short after sunrise HMS Hood and HMS Prince of Wales running at high speed to intercept Bismarck and Prinz Eugen.
