Hello I was very impressed of the footage taken on board the Prince Eugen Battle cruiser.
I have a historical interest in a few areas, including WW2, as well as the late York and Tudor period in English history. The wars of the Roses – the Yorkist Earl of March – who became Edward the IV of England and his tragic demise through over indulgence in wenching etc – and passed away – his brother Richard III (“Crook Back – whose skeleton was found, by chance, in a car park ) – then Henry 7 Tudor took over with the help of the French. I also have delved into Ancient Roman History – Julius Caesar – his Annals somewhat. I am a retired Electrical Engineer from Australia but presently living in Poland. Reading history provides a outlet from “Tekky thinking etc.
Back to Tekky we discussed the old Amplidyne motor system in the big guns of old British Battle ships – In one of the German films there is a giant meat mincer – however the cook’s assistants, ha, ha
It is sexist yes, but that was the tihiknng back in the day and that was his reasoning behind it. until then all ships were christened female and still are. I believe the Bismarck and Tirpitz are the only ones who were christened male not sure though i could be wrong on them being the only ones.
